Chat with an assistant on Telegram#
Your assistants can answer you in Telegram, through Astralyx's bot: you write to it as to anyone, and your assistant answers — with its instructions, its tools (web search, reading pages, the code interpreter, your memory) and the conversation so far, as in the app.
Before you begin#
- An assistant you may chat with (
assistants:call): one of your workspace's, or one shared with you. - Telegram on your phone or computer.
Connect#
- Open Eos → Assistants and the assistant.
- Under Telegram, press Chat on Telegram.
- Scan the QR code with your phone's camera (or press open Telegram here): Telegram opens at Astralyx's bot.
- Tap Start. The bot says All set and the page shows the connected chat.
- Open a chat with the assistant.
- Tap ⋯ → Chat on Telegram: Telegram opens at Astralyx's bot.
- Tap Start.
The link works once, for 15 minutes: it connects the Telegram account that opens it to you and that assistant. Opening another assistant's link in the same Telegram switches the chat to it.
Chat#
Write as in any chat. While it answers you see typing…, then the answer as it is written, with what its tools are doing above it (🔎 Searching the web…, 📄 Reading a page…, 🧮 Calculating…) and its plan as a checklist; the finished answer is formatted (bold, lists, code, links; tables in a monospaced block). An answer longer than a Telegram message comes in several.
| You send | It gets |
|---|---|
| Text | The text. |
| A voice note or an audio file | Its words, transcribed by your workspace's speech-to-text deployment (a Whisper). Without one, the bot says so. |
| A photo (with a caption, or not) | The photo, for a model that sees images. |
| A PDF or a text file (up to 20 MB) | Its text (the first 60,000 characters), then your caption as the question. A scanned PDF has no text: send its pages as photos. |
| A location | Its coordinates. |
Messages you send while it answers are answered next, in order.
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/new (/novo) |
Starts a new conversation; the last one is deleted. |
/assistants (/assistentes) |
Switches to another assistant of the workspace you may chat with. |
/stop (/parar) |
Stops the answer being written; what it wrote stays. |
/help (/ajuda) |
Says which assistant you are talking to, and these commands. |
/disconnect (/desconectar) |
Disconnects this Telegram (see below). |
The bot answers in Portuguese when your Telegram is in Portuguese, in English otherwise.
Send from a Shortcut#
Your own automations — an iPhone Shortcut, a script — can write to your assistant in the chat: a daily health report, an expense, a reminder.
- Open the connected chat: in the console, the assistant's page, Telegram; in the app, More → This phone → Telegram.
- Press Send from a Shortcut. The address is shown once: copy it and keep it like a password (anyone with it writes to your assistant as you). New shortcut address replaces it; Turn it off stops it.
- In the Shortcut, add Get Contents of URL: the address, Method
POST, Request Body JSON with a field
text— your text.
What it sends appears in the chat as 📥 From your Shortcut, and the assistant answers it there, with its tools and the conversation so far. A script sends the same:
curl -X POST "<your shortcut address>" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"text": "Spent R$ 42 at the pharmacy"}'
Never put the bot's own token in a Shortcut: messages sent with it come from the bot, and your assistant never reads them.
Long conversations#
The conversation is kept for the model to read, as the app's is. Near the
model's context, its older messages are summarised first by the
assistant (🧹 Summarising the conversation…) and the latest ones kept as
they are — the app's Compact,
always on. /new starts over.
Actions that change something#
An assistant with Astralyx tools may ask to change something in Astralyx (start a run, delete a deployment). Those that wait for you are not confirmed in Telegram: the bot sends Review and confirm, which opens the action in Astralyx, where you approve or deny it signed in. A Telegram account is not your Astralyx sign-in.
Who it answers#
Only the Telegram account that opened the link: another person who finds the bot is told how to connect their own. Each message is answered as you, with your access checked again each time: if you leave the workspace, or the assistant is deleted or no longer shared with you, the bot says so and answers no more. With an assistant shared with you, your memory is your own, as in the app.
Disconnect#
- In Telegram:
/disconnect. - In the console: the assistant's page, Telegram → Disconnect.
- In the app: More → This phone → Telegram → Disconnect.
Disconnecting deletes the conversation Astralyx kept for the model. Your messages stay in Telegram until you delete the chat there.
What passes where#
- Your messages go from Telegram to Astralyx and, as you, to your workspace's cluster, where the assistant's model answers. Telegram keeps the chat on its side, as any Telegram chat.
- The conversation the model reads is kept in your workspace's cluster, as yours alone (not even the assistant's editors read it), until you start a new one, disconnect, or the assistant is deleted.
- Astralyx keeps which Telegram chat is connected to which assistant, and a message only until its answer starts. A photo, a voice note or a file is read while it is answered and not kept; what the conversation keeps of a photo is your caption, and of a voice note its words.
Troubleshooting#
| You see | Why, and what to do |
|---|---|
| That link was used already or expired | Links work once, for 15 minutes. Press Chat on Telegram again. |
| This workspace has no speech model | Voice notes need a speech-to-text deployment in the workspace: deploy a Whisper (Create and manage deployments), or write. |
| This assistant can't see images | Its deployment's model does not take images: use an assistant on a model that sees. |
| 😴 Waking the model… | Its deployment was scaled to zero: the first message starts it. |
| The assistant … no longer exists, or you no longer have access to it | Choose another with /assistants, or connect one again. |
| Telegram is not set up on this Astralyx yet | Telegram is not offered on this installation. |
A Shortcut gets SHORTCUT_NOT_FOUND |
Its address was replaced or turned off, or the chat disconnected: make a new one. |
